A former mining and logging town, Georgetown is located in El Dorado County, between Placerville and Auburn. It's accessed primarily by Highway 193 and is just over an hour from Sacramento.

In its heyday, the area was known as Growlerburg because of the nuggets that "growled" in the miners' pans. Its colorful historic roots helped it become a designated California Historical Landmark.
